May & June Classes + Special Bonus through May 3

Hello –

If your Spring has been as busy as mine, you know how difficult it is to fit everything you want to do into your schedule! For me, that means that while I have secured class dates and times, I have not decided which classes or projects to teach on which date. For you, that means you can choose a class or project and then claim the date and time that works best for you!

Also, I want to let you know that Michael’s is offering a $20 voucher good toward class supplies if you sign up for a class by May 3rd. (Note: you only need to register by May 3rd to get the $20 voucher; class can be scheduled for May or June. Check with the store for more details.)      Continue reading

April Classes & Project Ideas

Even as we welcome Spring and eagerly leave behind our warm sweaters, knit and crochet inspiration still strikes in the form of fun and functional accessories to learn fundamental skills to practice during the warmer months. Now is the perfect time to sign up for a class to build your skills with smaller projects over the spring and summer and to learn new stitches and techniques in time to create beautiful projects to enjoy in the fall and winter or to give as gifts.

OMBRE Blankets – March & April Classes

om·bré – adjective \ˈäm-ˌbrā\  Definition: having colors or tones that shade into each other —used especially of fabrics in which the color is graduated from light to dark

One of the hottest design trends these days is “ombre” color palettes… from hair, to nails, to clothing and accessories. My March and April blanket (or throw) class projects are worked in a single simple stitch with contrasting colors in a “color block” wide stripe design for both the crochet and knit versions (see photos on my “CLASSES/PROJECTS” page). While I love the fun and vibrant look of contrasting colors, another idea occurred to me to arrange the colors tonally to create a beautiful ombre effect…

“Basics” Classes – Project Ideas

Hi everyone!

I thought I would post a photo to show you some things I’ve been working on to prepare for my new March classes. Once equipped with a few “basic” skills, you can begin to make a variety of projects, big and small, limited only by your imagination! Here are a couple of simple items I made in an afternoon after crocheting a few small squares (and a couple of rectangles) from the new “Crochet Basics” class, using only one or two simple stitches:

New Classes: Knitting & Crochet “Basics”

Based on feedback I’ve received after the Michael’s Open House and in-store demonstrations, I am excited to announce new classes that I will be offering starting in March!

“Knitting Basics” and “Crochet Basics” –

In response to interest in several of my projects which are not “beginner” level, I will begin teaching 2 new courses: “Knitting Basics” and “Crochet Basics.” These courses are designed to teach basic stitches and techniques, along with an overview of abbreviations and pattern reading without the pressure to complete a large project. This will allow you to learn more in class to build your skills and confidence to make unique projects on your own or in a class of your choice.    Continue reading

In-Store Demonstration: Fri. 1/24, 12-2pm

Hi everyone!

I know many of you have been practicing a few knit or crochet steps in preparation for class and I am so pleased with your efforts and enthusiasm. Great job! Your preparation will pay off in class as you make quick progress on your projects.

I also want to let you know that I will be conducting knit & crochet demonstrations at the Michael’s store in Boardman this coming Friday, January 24th from noon to 2:00pm.  If you’d like, stop by to see me as I work on some new projects or if you need help prior to our upcoming class. You’ll find me happily playing with yarn in the front of the store!

Thanks to everyone for stopping by at the Michael’s Open House and for signing up for a class to learn a new skill or to expand your current skills. It was a pleasure meeting all of you and I look forward to our upcoming “infinity scarf” classes. Every project (even small ones) will build your skills and knowledge. Your new hobby can be a simple joy or grow into a real passion with much more to learn. It’s a fun journey and I’m here to help you!

Check out the “Calendar,” “Projects” and “Resources” pages for details of our upcoming classes and to help you prepare. The infinity scarf will be a great quick project to build your skills and confidence. With a little experience, you will be able to find the right yarn and stitch pattern to make more advanced projects that you will love.    Continue reading
